Spinning to Infinity

14’ H x 8’ W x 8’ D

This sculpture is an exercise in balance, with the vertical shaft floating on a balance point, counterbalanced by a large conical concrete pendulum. The whirling galaxy spins and sways on a single point locking, self lubricated balance point. The word “Perhaps” is integrated into the upper spinning form while the phrase “Why Do You Ask?” Is part of the lower outer framework. There are no pinch points as there is a decorative cage that keeps baby fingers out and the floating concrete pendulum is prevented from coming within 3 inches of the outer conical cage. The sculpture has been on display outside of Space Gallery in Denver for a year, where it has performed flawlessly through the winter and the intense spring winds. The entire sculpture is bolted to a tripod of 3 cast iron vintage manhole covers. The upper section is powder coated and painted and the lower section has been left in natural rust, although it could also be painted or powder coated if the customer desires. Sculptural seating could also be added.
